Waterfalls and Ponds
Natural spectacles awaken the curiosity and fantasy of kids. In Lana and its surroundings you can not only find phenomenal mountains, but also waterfalls, that can easily be reached via short hiking paths. The whole family will enjoy a visit to the waterfall at the Brandiswaalweg as well as to the waterfalls of Parcines, Gargazzone and Fragsburg.
Near Gargazzone a hiking path on the slope of the Tschögglberg elevated plain first leads through the village and then past the Medieval Kröll tower. Behind there, visible from afar, the waterfall of Gargazone, that actually gave the village its name, is gushing down.
Even more spectacular is the waterfall of Parcines, with an impressive height of 97 m, one of the highest in the Alps. A well secured trail leads to a viewing platform, from where you can admire this spectacle of nature up close.
The highest waterfall in South Tyrol and one of the most imposing in all of Europe is the waterfall of Fragsburg with its 135 m height. The water masses are crushing down over an enormous rock face of porphyry and end up in a tight canyon.
Lakes and Ponds
Along with waterfalls and mountain torrents the Adige Valley also boast numerous ponds and mountain lakes. The most famous ones are Lake Caldaro and the nearby lakes of Monticolo, south of Bolzano. Small bathing lakes and beautiful ponds can be found mainly in the lower mountain ranges, e. g. the Felixer Weiher, a picturesque pond on the Deutschnonsberg Mountain and the Narauner Weiher near St. Hippolyth and the Schwarze Lacke Lake on the S. Vigilio Mountain pass.
